Spectinomycin Dihydrochloride is a new parenteral antibiotic prepared from Streptomyces spectabilis.Target: AntibacterialSpectinomycin is an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces spectabilis. It is active against gram-negative bacteria and used for the treatment of gonorrhea. Spectinomycin binds to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and interrupts protein synthesis. One form of resistance has emerged in the 16S ribosomal RNA in Pasteurella multocida. It is given by injection to treat gonorrhea, especially in patients who are allergic to penicillins. A resistance-conferring gene for spectinomycin can also be used as a selection marker in bacteria for molecular cloning purposes. Furthermore, Spectinomycin is used as a selection agent for transformed plant cells that contain the selectable marker gene Spcr

An antibiotic used in the treatment and control of infectious bacterial enteritis in animals. Used in drug testing against nonreplicating mycobacterium tuberculosis. Antibacterial; Ribosomal protein.A hydrochloride obtained by combining spectinomycin with two molar equivalents of hydrochloric acid. An antibiotic that is active against gram-negative bacteria and used (as its pentahydrate) to treat gonorrhea.
Spectinomycin hydrochloride (SPEC) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that has a broad spectrum against several bacterial strains of humans and veterinary infections. Spectinomycin (2HCl/hydrochloride) is a broad-spectrum aminocyclitol antibiotic that is highly effective in the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea. Spectinomycin should be considered the drug of choice in the treatment of gonorrhea in areas where penicillinase-producing strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae are prevalent. A single intramuscular injection of 0.2 g of spectinomycin hydrochloride is highly effective for the treatment of uncomplicated anogenital infections with Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Spectinomycin hydrochloride is indicated for uncomplicated anogenital gonococcal infections in men and women who cannot receive penicillin or probenecid, and is the drug of choice for the retreatment of patients with uncomplicated anogenital gonococcal infection who have not responded to other antibiotics. Synthetic modification of spectinomycin, a bacterial protein synthesis inhibitor, has been shown to increase antibacterial activity compared with spectinomycin. Aminomethyl spectinomycins are active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial pathogens
